"Wherefore David blessed the L-rd before all the
congregation...`Thine, O L-rd is the greatness, and the power, and the glory,
and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heaven and in the
earth is Thine; Thine is the kingdom, O L-rd, and Thou art exalted as head
above all.' " (I Chron. 29:10-11)
"...Thine is the kingdom, O L-rd" - the war of
Amalek; "...and Thou art exalted as head above all..." - the war of Gog and
Magog.
Amalek took its stand as a foe to Israel, looking with ill will
upon Israel who brought into the world a nation which would conduct itself,
within its kingdom, in accordance with the Majesty of the Name of G-d - this
though without exalting itself over other peoples in conquest. And it is
needful that there be a nation in the world in which the greatest power in its
kingdom will be the Name of G-d and the belief and confidence and the love and
the fear of G-d. Therefore Amalek who set himself in opposition to this
[need], and all his offshoots, "shall come to destruction." (Num.
24:20)
[In later days], in the days of Gog and Magog, not only will
Israel stand alone as a kingdom, but its spirit will be a force mastering many
peoples. And the Name of the L-rd G-d of Israel will go forth conquering all
the world of thought and enlightenment. And all will recognize that the light
of the just life, the seed of peace and blessing, rests in the living treasure
of the Torah of the L-rd G-d of Israel. Therefore the spirit of Israel and the
Majesty of the L-rd G-d of Israel will be exalted over the cultures of many
peoples, and this will arouse envy in the hearts of Gog and Magog in the Days
to Come. For although they will have come to accept that the kingdom of Israel
conducts itself in accordance with that spirit which has already determined its
role in the history [of man] to be a great one, yet they will not be able to
bear that a people will be exalted by its spirit over all the peoples.
But when the Hand of G-d is revealed upon His servants, then it
will be clear that "Thine is the kingdom", L-rd G-d of Israel, in despite of
Amalek who sought to deny the right to kingship of the Name of G-d in Israel.
And then, L-rd G-d of Israel, "Thou art exalted.." over all power of each
of the many peoples. All will recognize and know that within Him is the source
of life, and the light of His Torah is the fount of deliverance to every
person.
